About the artist
Bio: Alexis DiSpensa is from Philadelphia, where she currently resides and continues her studio practice. She is a multidisciplinary fine artist whose use of mediums include painting, sculpture, fibers, and installation. Alexis received a BFA from Rowan University, and an MFA from PAFA; The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Elevating the perception of materials associated with femininity, my affinity for textiles is at times portrayed as a second skin, at others an architectural portrait resting in a landscape. Fragments of the figure float between a pictorial and sculptural space. I try to weave the two with threads of familiarity, using color and texture to suggest a tactile experience. I want to create tension within equal and opposite relationships.
