Bio: During the 1970's and 80's I produced a body of photographic images; Cafe's, late night Donut holes, Sacramento Delta farmers and farm workers, Sacramento neighborhoods, low riders and my neighbors in Locke. These images were published locally, nationally and internationally. My stock images have been sold by Magnum in New York and Jeroboam in San Francisco. They are in the collection of the Oakland Museum and Crocker Museum as well as many private collections. Along with Jeff Gillenkirk we produced the awarding winning book Bitter Melon: Inside American's Last Rural Chinese Town. From the mid 1980 to 2010 I stop making images to raise two wonderful children. Retired from full time job to start a creative life again in 2012. These new images reflect my exploring Abstract-Realism. Like my images from the 70's-80's they are full frame, with just normal adjustments to contrast and such. There is no Photoshop, no swings of color and no layering of many images. I very simply create an environment, adjust lighting and depress the shutter. Ideally I want a viewer to linger with my image and decoded it slowly. Like viewing a Delacroix and De Kooning painting but it is a photograph.
