Bio: Jörgen Axelvall is a photographer and artist from Sweden currently based in Tokyo.
Before moving to Tokyo in 2011, Axelvall lived and worked in New York City for 15 years.
In September 2013, Axelvall was the international winner of the prestigious New Exposure Award presented by US Vogue and Bottega Veneta.
In 2014 Axelvall published two books, Instant Moments and
I was looking for Park Hyatt Tokyo and had several exhibitions, in Tokyo, New York and Los Angeles.
In 2015 I was looking for Park Hyatt Tokyo was included as a Jury Selection by the 18th Japan Media Arts Festival and was shown at the National Arts Center in Tokyo.
Axelvall’s biggest exhibition to date, OIDE, was held at the Embassy of Sweden Tokyo, December 2015 - January 2016 and a selection of portraits from the extensive OIDE series was shortlisted at the 4th International Emerging Artist Award of Dubai (IEAA) and included in the Best of 2016 book, published by IEAA and Pixalib.
In 2017 Axelvall published his third book, titled Go To Become.
Go To Become comprises Axelvall’s photography with original poetry by Mutsuo Takahashi, one of the most prominent and prolific poets in contemporary Japan.
The book release, together with an exhibition, was held at Bookmarc Tokyo Gallery.
Also in 2017, with the support of Pommery Champagne, Parité: un plus un est plus encore, was shown at Shu Champagne Bar & Art Gallery Tokyo.
Axelvall’s work regularly appears in editorials and campaigns for magazines and clients worldwide.
