About the artist
Bio: Karen Hansen spent 22 years in the field of animation and got to work in studios all over the world. Then in 2001 she left the industry to paint full time. Since then her paintings have been exhibited widely in both group and solo shows and her work can be found in public, corporate, private and museum collections around the world. She has received numerous awards and commissions including a Minnesota “Art for Architecture” competition winner designing a manhole cover reflecting life in Minneapolis. The cover is installed in downtown Minneapolis. She’s been an artist in residence twice, once at the Mark Rothko Centre Museum in Daugavpils, Latvia (Rothko’s birthplace) and again in Civitella d’Agliano, Italy, organized through Academia Luciana. Hansen is a native of Chicago. She now lives in Southern California.
