About the artist
Bio: LI.TRU (1986, selftaught). Latvian artist. Making paintings of wild animals and nature with a jeweler precision. She spent all her childhood in the countryside, so nature and animals have been her best friends since she was a kid. She raised frogs and different kind of insects in a jar. She stole bricks and cement from kolkhoz to build a shelter for a cat and her kittens. All her breakfast was given to stray dogs. In the forest, she established a cemetery in which she buried hedgehogs and birds that were hit by cars. Later she moved to Riga, the capital of Latvia. Among the concrete walls, cars and crowds of people, she desperately missed the nature, so she had to create it by herself. With the precision of jeweller, she paints each animal for so long as she can see and feel its soul. She paints her paintings with acrylic paints. With abstract backgrounds, she highlights each animal so that they can tell their stories to the viewers.
