About the artist
Bio: My name is Veronica Huacuja (o̅o̅-ä-co̅o̅-hä) (1958). I am a painter that was born and lives in Mexico. I got to know my vocation as a painter since childhood. I found this initial capacity with astonishment and delight (the rest comes with work, as we know). Some of my artistic influences are the Pre-Columbian sculpture with its awesome geometry, Mexican painters, such as Jose Clemente Orozco, David A. Siqueiros, Frida Kahlo, among others. The European and American art are my artistic influences, too. It is important to mention that my work has a very strong influence from Francis Bacon's oeuvre. The pictorial currents of my work are figurative and abstract. The mediums and techniques of my choice are oil on canvas and on paper. I like this medium because it permits me to achieve strong strokes and saturated hues. Nevertheless, sometimes I use acrylic. The formats with which, for the moment I feel most comfortable using, are small (9.4 by 12.6") and medium (39.3 by 31.5"). The man and its precarious condition (temporality, decay, illness...) is the centerpiece of my work.
Education: I am an Industrial Designer (1977-1981). As a student I took drawing classes, mostly oriented to represent massive products. During my lifetime I have participated in many workshops painting the human body. I have been a drawing and a painting teacher as well.
